Soorma Hockey Club, after a strong debut season in the Women’s Hockey India League (HIL), is determined to clinch the title this time. The team’s standout feature is its exceptional goalkeeping, led by the legendary Savita, who has over 300 international caps for India and was the previous season’s ‘Goalkeeper of the Tournament’.
In defense, the team will rely on experienced players like Australian Penny Squibb and India’s Jyoti, along with the addition of Japan’s Shihori Oikawa. The midfield will be anchored by India captain Salima Tete, known for her leadership and game control, supported by a mix of national and international talents.
Upfront, Soorma Hockey Club boasts a strong attacking lineup with players like Maria Jose Granatto, Olivia Shannon, and Indian talents Sonam and Mumtaz Khan. Head Coach Jude Menezes will look to capitalize on the team’s strengths and improve upon last season’s performance.
Soorma Hockey Club’s key strength lies in its experienced players across all positions, while the departure of key internationals poses a challenge. The team will need to quickly adapt to fill the gaps left by the departed players, especially in terms of goal-scoring prowess.
Soorma Hockey Club kicks off their Women’s Hero HIL 2025-26 campaign against Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers on December 29, 2025, in Ranchi.
