Electoral registration officers in West Bengal conducting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) must get final clearance from special roll observers before adding voters’ names to the electoral list. This requirement applies to voters categorized as “unmapped” or in the “logical discrepancy” group after attending hearings on claims and objections.
For voters not falling under the “unmapped” or “logical discrepancy” categories in the draft list, their names will automatically transfer to the final voters’ list. “Unmapped” voters lack linkage to the 2002 voters’ list, while “logical discrepancy” cases involve anomalies in family tree data during the mapping process.
Special roll observers will review the identity documents provided by voters at hearings to ensure authenticity before allowing registration officers to upload the names. This process aims to include only voters presenting one of the 13 identity proof documents specified by the Election Commission of India.
The Election Commission has approved separate lists of “unmapped” voters and “logical discrepancy” cases identified during the SIR in West Bengal. These lists have been distributed to electoral registration officers for display at various offices in the state. The deadline for hearing sessions is February 7, with the final voters’ list set for publication on February 14, subject to possible extensions.
