One person died, and three others sustained injuries in Mandla, Madhya Pradesh, when a speeding SUV lost control and collided with four two-wheelers near Chandni Paan Centre in Collectorate Colony. The tragic incident occurred late at night at a sharp turn close to the popular paan shop, where the SUV, driven recklessly, crashed into parked and moving two-wheelers, injuring bystanders. The deceased, Shaneel Nikhar, hailed from Radha Krishna Ward behind the District Panchayat.
Asif Hussain (40) and Rahul Kachhwaha (35) were among the injured, with Asif suffering head, rib, and leg injuries, and Rahul sustaining a leg injury. Rahul, who worked at a local shop, was also rushed to the district hospital for medical care along with the other injured individuals. CCTV footage of the accident captured the horrifying moment when the SUV collided with the two-wheelers, leading to the tragic outcome.
Following the crash, a crowd quickly gathered at the scene and apprehended the reportedly drunk driver. The agitated locals handed him over to the police, who promptly arrived at the location to manage the situation. The damaged SUV and the four affected two-wheelers were lifted using a crane and taken to the police station for further investigation.
Authorities have initiated legal proceedings against the driver, with ongoing investigations focusing on determining the precise cause of the accident, including the potential involvement of drunk driving and overspeeding. Mandla’s Superintendent of Police confirmed that the driver was intoxicated and driving recklessly, with a case registered under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act and IPC. The CCTV footage is currently under scrutiny, and stringent action will be taken accordingly.
