Spreading Warmth: AAPI’s Initiative to Aid Communities in Need
The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) has relaunched its heartwarming initiative, “Share-the-Warmth,” a program aimed at aiding the homeless and needy across the U.S. This initiative, first introduced in 2019, exemplifies AAPI’s commitment to giving back to local communities, especially during the harsh winter season.
Through this project, AAPI has distributed thousands of blankets nationwide, providing warmth and comfort to those in shelters and on the streets. Led by Dr. Satheesh Kathula, the program has become an annual tradition, uniting AAPI members and local chapters in a mission of compassion.
Dr. Raghu Lolabhattu, Chair of the program, emphasized its success in spreading joy during the holiday season, attributing its effectiveness to the generosity of AAPI members. Dr. Malti Mehta, Co-Chair, highlighted how the initiative began under Dr. Suresh Reddy’s leadership and has since expanded under successive administrations.
The program thrives on the dedication of AAPI physicians and young volunteers who donate their time, resources, and efforts to brighten lives. Testimonials from leaders like Dr. Amit Chakrabarty and Dr. Meher Medavaram underline the motivation derived from seeing the program’s impact.
With support from local chapters and community leaders, such as Jersey City’s Mayor Steven M. Fulop, AAPI plans to expand its reach. Dr. Sunil Kaza, Chair of AAPI BOT, praised the collective spirit of giving, while Dr. Raj Bhayani encouraged members to participate actively.
Founded in 1982, AAPI represents over 120,000 Indian-origin physicians in the U.S., making it the largest ethnic medical organization in the country. Beyond this initiative, AAPI engages in public health advocacy, education, and wellness programs worldwide.
