To accommodate the anticipated increase in passenger traffic before Christmas, the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) has announced the deployment of 900 special bus services from Chennai to various parts of Tamil Nadu in the next two days. This move comes as authorities expect a significant surge in travel from Chennai and other major cities, with people traveling to their hometowns and religious sites for the festive season. In response to the heightened demand, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) will run special buses alongside its regular services to ensure seamless travel for passengers.
The majority of these special services will operate from the Kilambakkam Integrated Bus Terminus, a hub for long-distance services in southern Chennai. On Wednesday, 255 special buses will depart from Kilambakkam, followed by 525 buses on Thursday, connecting Chennai to various parts of the state. These special services will focus on popular routes such as Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchirappalli, Kumbakonam, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Coimbatore, Salem, Erode, and Tiruppur.
During festive periods, these destinations witness a substantial influx of passengers, particularly from commuters and students returning to their hometowns. Additionally, special buses will run from Chennai and Coimbatore to destinations like Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Hosur, and Bengaluru. A total of 91 special buses are scheduled for these routes over the two days, with an additional 20 special buses operating from Madhavaram in North Chennai to alleviate passenger congestion.
In response to demand, special return services will also be available on Sunday from various parts of Tamil Nadu to Chennai and Bengaluru, facilitating the return journey for passengers after the Christmas break. Passengers are encouraged to plan their travels in advance and utilize official booking platforms to avoid last-minute inconveniences. The transport corporations emphasize that these additional services aim to provide safe, comfortable, and punctual travel experiences during the festive season.
