Former England cricketer Stuart Broad has reiterated his claim that the current Australian cricket team is the weakest Ashes opponent England has encountered in the past 15 years. Broad had initially stated that Australia was at its lowest point since England’s Ashes victory in 2010–11 due to transition and selection uncertainties. This assertion was acknowledged by the Australian team during their celebrations in Adelaide after securing the Ashes with a win in the third Test.
Broad, on his For The Love of Cricket podcast, stood by his comments, emphasizing that Australia had not performed poorly, but England had failed to meet expectations. He pointed out factors like Cummins and Hazlewood missing matches and Khawaja’s back issues as vulnerabilities for Australia. Broad also noted that while England had some advantages coming into the series, they had not capitalized on them. He acknowledged Australia’s relentless pressure on England but maintained that the 2013-14 Australian team was likely stronger man-for-man. Despite this, Broad affirmed that the current Australian team has been formidable in applying pressure on England.
