Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins has departed from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 to undergo a final medical scan on his persistent back injury in Australia. Cummins, the Australian pacer, has been sidelined since the Ashes series against England and also missed the recent ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
According to ESPNCricinfo, Cummins flew back to Australia immediately after SRH’s victory against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 2 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata for the scheduled scan supervised by Cricket Australia (CA). The skipper, who missed the first two matches, is expected to rejoin the team on April 17 post the medical test.
Ishan Kishan has taken over the captaincy for SRH in Cummins’ absence during the initial phase of IPL 2026. Despite a defeat in their opening match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, SRH bounced back impressively in the subsequent game by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by 65 runs.
Under Kishan’s leadership, Sunrisers Hyderabad currently holds the sixth position in the points table with two points from two games and a net run rate of +0.469. The team is set to play their next match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad.
