Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after President Droupadi Murmu expressed dissatisfaction over the state government changing the venue for the 9th International Santal Conference in Darjeeling district. The event was moved from Phansidewa to a smaller location at Gossaipur due to security reasons, which displeased the President.
President Murmu highlighted the lack of courtesy from the state administration as neither Mamata Banerjee nor her Cabinet colleagues met her during her visit, contrary to established traditions. Adhikari supported the President, condemning the disrespect shown and the neglect of protocol during her visit to Siliguri. He accused the Mamata Banerjee Administration of obstructing the International Santhali Conclave, where the President was the Chief Guest, suggesting a deliberate disregard for Santhali culture and voices.
Adhikari further criticized Mamata Banerjee, labeling her as anti-tribal and accountable for the unfavorable treatment towards the President. He emphasized the need for change and respect for dignity in West Bengal, pointing out the Chief Minister’s alleged contempt towards tribal communities.
