Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has expressed his intention to request Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to investigate the death of Bengali actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee through the state’s CID. Adhikari highlighted concerns about an accused individual close to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the State Women’s Commission Chairperson, Leena Gangopadhyay, suggesting a potential cover-up by the police.
Adhikari accused Mamata Banerjee of attempting to shield Gangopadhyay, drawing parallels to a previous incident involving a momo company owner. In response, Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into Adhikari’s bodyguard’s mysterious death before addressing the current matter. Ghosh defended the West Bengal government’s prompt actions in similar cases.
Meanwhile, late actor Rahul Banerjee’s wife, Priyanka Sarkar, has filed complaints in both Kolkata and Odisha against individuals from the production company responsible for the shoot at Talsari beach. The Bengali film and television industry has called for an indefinite strike to protest Banerjee’s death, demanding enhanced safety measures and justice for the tragic incident.
Actors and crew members have urged for the presence of an ambulance at every shoot following the incident, emphasizing the importance of improved safety protocols. Banerjee, known for his character roles in the Bengali entertainment industry, passed away during a shoot for the television series ‘Bhole Baba Paar Karega’ at Talsari beach, leaving behind his family and a grieving industry.
