The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections nomination filing process is wrapping up, with 3,430 nominations received across the state, as reported by the Election Commission of India. The final day is expected to see a surge in high-profile candidates submitting their papers, intensifying the electoral race.
Most nominations, totaling 2,731, have been filed by male candidates, while 698 nominations come from women candidates, showing a noticeable but modest participation. Notably, a third-gender candidate from Villivakkam has also submitted a nomination, marking a step towards inclusive electoral representation.
Karur leads in nominations with 84 candidates, attracting attention due to prominent contenders like former AIADMK Minister M.R. Vijayabhaskar. The constituency also sees a significant number of Independent candidates filing nominations, contributing to the high count.
In contrast, Madurai South has the lowest activity with only three nominations filed so far, showcasing the varying levels of electoral competition across constituencies in Tamil Nadu. The final nomination day is anticipated to witness senior leaders like AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami and BJP representatives formally entering the race.
