Tamil Nadu BJP has criticized Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for not receiving Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to the state. The BJP termed this action as a departure from the state’s political traditions. TN BJP spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad highlighted that extending courtesy to visiting Prime Ministers has been a longstanding practice in Tamil Nadu, regardless of party affiliations.
Prasad emphasized that the Chief Minister’s absence at the airport when the Prime Minister arrived indicated a lack of respect for constitutional offices. He stressed that such gestures should transcend political differences and be based on upholding the decorum of constitutional positions.
According to Prasad, while political disagreements are inherent in a democracy, showing respect for the Prime Minister’s office is crucial within the federal structure and political decorum. He also mentioned that previous Chief Ministers, irrespective of their party allegiances, have adhered to this tradition when national leaders visited the state.
Prime Minister Modi, during his visit, inaugurated and laid the foundation for various infrastructure projects in Tamil Nadu. These projects aim to enhance connectivity and urban development in the state. Initiatives include road development projects like the four-laning of the Paramakudi-Ramanathapuram road to facilitate better access to Rameswaram and road enhancements to reduce travel time between Marakkanam and Puducherry.
In the railway sector, the Prime Minister announced the redevelopment of eight stations, such as Srivilliputhur, Pollachi, and Karaikudi, under the Amrit Bharat scheme. Additionally, a fourth railway line between Chennai Beach and Egmore was proposed to alleviate congestion in the suburban rail network. Furthermore, new 24/7 FM transmitters will be introduced in Kumbakonam, Yercaud, and Vellore to strengthen public broadcasting services.
BJP leaders highlighted the significant allocation of funds to Tamil Nadu over the past decade for infrastructure and welfare programs. They emphasized that a stronger collaboration between the Centre and the state could further accelerate growth and development in Tamil Nadu. As the Assembly elections approach, discussions on protocol, governance, and development are expected to intensify in Tamil Nadu’s evolving political scenario.
