Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced an additional Rs 2,000 credited to the bank accounts of beneficiaries under social security pension schemes. This move aims to provide extra financial assistance to vulnerable sections of society. The government’s commitment to inclusive welfare is emphasized through these special funds for the marginalized.
The decision to allocate the additional funds follows the positive response to the Rs 2,000 summer special package for women under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme. Various groups, including senior citizens, widows, elderly transgender persons, and those with disabilities receiving monthly pension benefits, requested similar support. Responding to these appeals, the State government granted Rs 2,000 along with the March pension as a special poverty alleviation grant.
A total of 29.29 lakh beneficiaries, including elderly persons and widows under different social security schemes, have received Rs 3,200 each. Additionally, 5.92 lakh persons with disabilities were credited with Rs 3,500 each. Moreover, 2.58 lakh families of persons with disabilities receiving maintenance allowance were given Rs 4,000 each. The welfare initiatives also extend to 1,62,900 fishing families who will receive Rs 8,000 per family as fishing ban allowance for the April to June period.
In a significant move, the Chief Minister announced an allocation of Rs 8.53 crore as price support for green tea purchased through 15 cooperative tea factories. This support, at Rs 2,000 per kilogram, is expected to benefit 14,870 tea farmers in the Nilgiris district. Stalin reaffirmed his government’s commitment to social justice, ensuring no one is left behind in Tamil Nadu’s development journey. The introduction of the latest Rs 2,000 special fund, much like the earlier grant for women, has been widely welcomed by beneficiaries across the State.
