With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approaching, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is gearing up to reveal the DMK’s much-awaited manifesto, a significant move in the party’s campaign strategy. The polls in Tamil Nadu are set for a single-phase on April 23, with vote counting on May 4. Nomination filing for the 234-member Assembly has started and will run until April 6, marking a crucial phase in the electoral process.
The DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are the main contenders in what is anticipated to be a fiercely contested election. Other participants like Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) and actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) are also independently contesting, adding complexity to the electoral landscape.
Seat-sharing within the DMK-led alliance showcases a wide coalition of parties. The Congress will vie for 28 seats, while the MDMK has secured four seats. Additionally, other allies include Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (two seats), Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi (two), Indian Union Muslim League (two), CPI (five), CPI(M) (5), VCK (8), and DMDK with 10 seats.
Ahead of the manifesto launch, CM Stalin announced the DMK’s list of 164 candidates, marking a crucial step for the ruling party. The manifesto is expected to feature various voter-centric welfare initiatives and development commitments, likely playing a key role in influencing public sentiment during the campaign.
On the other side, the AIADMK, under former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, has already outlined populist pledges, including free rice for ration card holders, financial aid of Rs 10,000 per family, and three free LPG cylinders annually. As campaigning gains momentum, both major alliances are poised to escalate their outreach efforts across Tamil Nadu, setting the stage for a high-stakes electoral battle.
