Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin is currently engaged in a significant business trip to the United States, which aims to attract investment for his state. As part of this 17-day mission, which spans from August 27 to September 14, Stalin is scheduled to meet with potential investors in San Francisco on Thursday. According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Stalin is expected to hold multiple meetings with prospective investors and sign several contracts. This visit is not only a strategic move to bolster Tamil Nadu’s investment portfolio but also includes engagements with high-profile figures such as Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, and leaders from several Fortune 500 companies.
Upon his arrival in the United States, CM Stalin and his wife, Durga, received a warm welcome at the airport from Tamil Nadu Industries Minister TRB Rajaa, the Consul General of India in San Francisco, K. Srikant Reddy, and a large group of DMK supporters. On the itinerary, Stalin will also interact with the Tamil diaspora on Saturday before traveling to Chicago on September 2. While in Chicago, he plans to address a major gathering of the Tamil community on September 7 and engage with local entrepreneurs. During these engagements, he will highlight the advantages of investing in Tamil Nadu.
This visit follows an earlier milestone achieved eight months ago when the Tamil Nadu government signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth over Rs 6 lakh crore at the third Global Investors Meet. The CMO’s statement underlines that Stalin’s agenda includes visits to prominent technology companies, underscoring Tamil Nadu’s commitment to embracing cutting-edge technologies and fostering an environment conducive to research, development, and high-tech manufacturing.
Notably, since taking office in May 2021, Chief Minister Stalin has traveled to several countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Japan, and Spain, with the objective of attracting investment to Tamil Nadu. The CMO has indicated that a detailed list of proposals received during this US trip will be made available.
Tamil Nadu has already made significant strides in establishing itself as a major hub for iPhone manufacturing in India, with key suppliers like Foxconn, Pegatron, and Tata Electronics expanding their operations within the state. Furthermore, Bharat FIH, a subsidiary of Foxconn, is poised to start assembling Pixel phones and drones for Google, further cementing the state’s role in the high-tech manufacturing sector.
