Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin, announced that the Congress party would reveal its candidate list later in the day while actively campaigning in Erode for the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance before the April 23 Assembly elections. CM Stalin, addressing a public rally, encouraged voters to support alliance candidates, including the Congress nominee in Erode East, pending confirmation by senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Stressing the importance of a united Opposition front, he emphasized the need to protect Tamil Nadu’s interests.
Campaigning extensively in the district, CM Stalin sought votes for DMK candidates and alliance partners, such as those from the Congress, MDMK, and CPI, across various constituencies. Reflecting on Erode’s history of social justice and progressive politics, he invoked the legacies of Periyar E. V. Ramasamy, C.N. Annadurai, and M. Karunanidhi. He framed the upcoming election as a choice between inclusive governance and divisive politics.
Highlighting his government’s accomplishments, CM Stalin credited the Dravidian Model for fostering development in various sectors and regions, citing initiatives in Erode like the Athikadavu-Avinashi project completion, establishment of a turmeric research center, and distribution of land titles to contributing residents. Criticizing the Opposition, he accused AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami and the BJP of neglecting crucial issues.
CM Stalin expressed concerns over the NDA’s impact on Tamil Nadu through policies like NEET, delayed GST compensation, and educational fund denials. He also addressed women’s safety, emphasizing his government’s efforts to strengthen laws for harsher penalties against crimes targeting women. Urging voter support for alliance candidates, he expressed confidence in the DMK-led front’s ability to secure a significant mandate in the upcoming polls.
