Former cricketer Tamim Iqbal has been named President of the ad-hoc committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) following the dissolution of the previous board led by Aminul Islam due to irregularities in last year’s elections. The decision comes after a government investigation panel highlighted these irregularities.
The sports ministry initiated a probe on March 11, tasking a committee to look into allegations of manipulation and misconduct during the October 6 elections. The National Sports Council confirmed multiple discrepancies in the electoral process, which were shared with the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Tamim, at 37, is now the youngest to lead the BCB in this role. He will head an interim committee that includes former national captain Minhajul Abedin and ex-cricketer Athar Ali Khan, among others from administrative and corporate backgrounds.
The board has been facing instability, with concerns over election legitimacy, Bangladesh’s absence from the T20 World Cup, and allegations of political bias. This turmoil has led to several resignations, with four directors stepping down recently, bringing the total resignations since January to six.
