Tata Sons chairman N. Chandrasekaran addressed Air India staff, emphasizing the airline’s current challenges and the importance of execution and cost discipline. Chandrasekaran highlighted the need to concentrate on areas within their control, improve efficiency, manage costs, and stay realistic about the circumstances. Safety was underscored as a top priority for Air India, influencing decisions across various operational aspects.
Chandrasekaran encouraged teamwork, customer-centric approaches, and perseverance, noting that the journey ahead is long but promising. His remarks coincided with ongoing leadership changes at the airline, including Chief Executive Campbell Wilson’s planned departure in 2026. Air India has faced regulatory scrutiny following a fatal Boeing 787 crash in June 2025 near Ahmedabad, resulting in operational challenges and safety concerns.
The airline’s operational disruptions were further exacerbated by the US-Iran conflict, leading to a significant reduction in flights to West Asia. The Airlines Pilots’ Association of India (ALPA) has called for a comprehensive investigation by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation into decision-making processes within Air India, particularly focusing on operational roles and safety protocols.
