Preliminary findings in the techie couple suicide case from Bengaluru suggest that the husband’s depression was triggered by losing his job to Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the US. The incident involved the wife jumping from the 17th floor upon discovering her husband’s body at their home. It is suspected that the wife took this extreme step in shock after finding her husband deceased.
The tragic event occurred in the Kothanur area of Bengaluru and involved a 32-year-old man named Bhanuchandra Reddy, also known as Babu Reddy, and his 31-year-old wife, Shazia Siraj. Both were software professionals from Telangana working in private companies. Reddy, unable to cope with job loss in the US, fell into deep depression leading to his suicide. The couple, married for two years, had kept their marriage secret from Shazia’s family, prompting them to settle in Bengaluru instead of Telangana.
Reddy, who previously earned a substantial income in the US, lost his job due to AI-related changes, which significantly impacted him. Despite support from Shazia and her family during his job search in Bengaluru, Reddy’s attempts to secure a new position were unsuccessful. Shazia, employed at a multinational firm in Bengaluru, returned home after a night shift to discover the tragic scene.
The couple had been together for approximately nine years, initially in a live-in relationship before marriage, but reportedly experienced frequent disagreements. Following the incident, two separate cases have been registered at the Kothanur police station. A note left by Reddy, found by the police, cited depression as the reason for his actions and absolved others of responsibility. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
