In a major milestone for Indian Railways, Tejas Express, India’s first privately operated train, has made a remarkable debut by generating a profit of ₹70 lakh within just 21 days of operation. Running between Lucknow and New Delhi, the train has achieved this success with an impressive occupancy rate of 80–85%.

This achievement marks a significant step forward in the modernization and privatization of Indian Railways, highlighting the potential advantages of private sector participation in the country’s public transportation system.

Key Highlights of Tejas Express’s Success

Revenue Generation:
In just three weeks of operation, Tejas Express generated approximately ₹3.70 crore in ticket sales, reflecting strong demand from travelers on the Lucknow–New Delhi route.

Operational Efficiency:
Operating six days a week, Tejas Express incurs daily expenses of around ₹14 lakh while earning about ₹17.5 lakh daily from passenger fares. This efficient financial management has helped the train turn a profit quickly.

Passenger Amenities:
Tejas Express sets a new benchmark for passenger services in India by offering several premium amenities, including:

  • Combo meals served onboard
  • Free insurance coverage up to ₹25 lakh for every passenger
  • Compensation for delays, ensuring a more accountable travel experience

These world-class features have played a crucial role in attracting travelers and maintaining high occupancy rates.

A New Chapter for Indian Railways
The early success of Tejas Express showcases the potential benefits of private sector involvement in Indian Railways. It demonstrates how privatization, combined with a focus on passenger experience and operational efficiency, can deliver profitable and customer-centric transportation services.

With Tejas Express setting the stage, India can expect more private trains in the future, bringing enhanced services, improved punctuality, and greater comfort to rail passengers nationwide.

As the journey of Tejas Express continues, it symbolizes a bold move towards a modern, efficient, and passenger-friendly Indian Railways.
