Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao was taken into custody by the police in Hyderabad when attempting to travel to Banswada town following a recent communal clash. Rao, who had been under house arrest, was detained by the police as he tried to leave, leading to tension at his residence in the Tarnaka area.
Supporters of Rao clashed with the police when he was stopped from leaving, resulting in the arrest of some protesters. Subsequently, the BJP leader was moved to Bollarum Police Station. Earlier, Rao had expressed his intention to visit Kamareddy to show support for BJP MLA K. Venkata Ramana Reddy, who was reportedly attacked.
Rao criticized the situation, alleging an emergency in Telangana and accusing certain groups of targeting Hindus. He claimed that his arrest was politically motivated and emphasized his commitment to standing up for the people despite pressure.
The clash in Banswada town erupted after a dispute over the playing of a devotional song in a supermarket, escalating into stone-pelting between members of different communities. Two police personnel were injured in the incident, leading to increased police presence in the area to prevent further violence and arrests of individuals involved in the rioting.
