Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy made a strong impact in Nemom, a key constituency in the upcoming Kerala elections, with his enthusiastic campaign that combined elements of cinema, satire, and sharp political messaging. Addressing a crowd under scorching conditions in support of Congress leader K. S. Sabarinathan, Reddy captivated the audience by quoting a famous line from a Mohanlal movie, urging a political change.
The statement resonated well with the crowd, signaling the start of the “UDF era” in Kerala. Nemom has become a crucial battleground, with BJP state President Rajeev Chandrasekhar vying to regain the assembly seat lost in 2021 after winning it in 2016. Reddy accused the BJP and RSS of aligning with the CPI-M and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to expand their influence in Kerala.
Drawing parallels between Vijayan and PM Narendra Modi, Reddy warned that supporting the Left Democratic Front (LDF) would indirectly strengthen the BJP nationally. He emphasized the historical role of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in containing the BJP in Kerala and cautioned against potential threats to this balance due to undisclosed agreements.
Presenting the UDF as a pro-development choice, Reddy urged voters to endorse the alliance, pledging enhanced investments, job opportunities, and a focus on youth issues. He also highlighted concerns arising from the economic repercussions of the West Asian crisis. Reddy is set to unveil the UDF’s election manifesto before concluding his two-day campaign in Kerala and returning to Telangana.
Kerala is gearing up for elections on April 9 to elect 140 new legislators.
