Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has requested the Centre to commence the proposed high-speed rail connections to Chennai, Bengaluru, and Pune from Shamshabad, the site of Hyderabad International Airport. During a meeting with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Chief Minister also offered 500 acres of land near the airport for these corridors.
Reddy outlined plans to develop Kodangal Assembly constituency, Tekalkode, and Daulatabad as industrial zones, particularly due to their proximity to cement industries in Karnataka’s Krishna region. The high-speed rail corridors from Hyderabad to Chennai, Bengaluru, and Pune were announced in the 2026-27 Union Budget.
Noting that the Hyderabad-Chennai corridor is set to pass through Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, Reddy proposed a rail link from there to Bandar Port to expedite goods movement from a planned dry port in Telangana. He emphasized that Shamshabad would become a significant junction if the high-speed corridors originate near the airport.
The Chief Minister urged immediate land acquisition and commencement of work on these corridors. The Railway Minister reportedly responded positively to Reddy’s requests. Additionally, Reddy appealed for central funding for the Krishna-Vikarabad railway line, highlighting the potential for cement and textile industries in Tekalkode due to identified limestone deposits along the route.
