Tension gripped the Puranapul area in Hyderabad as unidentified individuals vandalized a place of worship, leading to an attack on a nearby shrine. The incident resulted in ten people, including an inspector and several constables, sustaining injuries due to stone pelting, with multiple vehicles being damaged late on Wednesday night.
The trouble began when unknown persons tore a flexi at the Puranapul temple, prompting a crowd to gather and raise slogans, escalating the situation. Subsequently, the mob targeted a shrine of a different community, desecrating graves and damaging a religious flag. This unrest culminated in the setting ablaze of a two-wheeler and the destruction of other vehicles, causing a traffic standstill at the bustling Musi River intersection.
Amidst stone pelting that injured police personnel and clashes between groups, law enforcement resorted to a lathi charge to disperse the unruly mob. Additional police forces swiftly arrived at the scene to prevent further violence, with senior police officials, including Additional Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqubal and Deputy Commissioners of Police, intervening to restore order.
Hyderabad MP and AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi visited Puranapul the following morning, urging authorities to take strict action against those responsible for the vandalism and violence. Meanwhile, the BJP alleged desecration of Hindu temples in Telangana, with the state BJP president N. Ramchander Rao accusing the Congress government of allowing extremist forces to target temples for political gains.
