Thailand Unveils Visa Waiver for Indian Travelers, Extends Program Amidst Busy Travel Season
Thailand, renowned for its delectable cuisine, vibrant cultures, and stunning beaches, has announced a significant move to bolster its tourism sector. In a bid to attract more visitors, particularly from India, the Thai government has declared a waiver of visa requirements for Indian nationals until November 11th.
This timely announcement aligns with the onset of peak travel and vacation seasons, presenting an enticing opportunity for travelers to explore the myriad wonders of Thailand without the hassle of visa applications. Previously slated to expire on May 10, 2024, the visa-free entry has now been extended, offering travelers greater flexibility in planning their trips to the country.
The Visa-Free Program has already shown promising results, with reports indicating a substantial increase in tourist arrivals, reaching over 12 million visitors in the first few months of 2024—a notable 39% surge compared to the previous year. Leading the influx are tourists from China, India, Russia, Malaysia, and South Korea, underscoring the pivotal role these markets play in Thailand’s recovery from the pandemic-induced travel restrictions.
Under this program, Indian travelers can enjoy a visa-free stay of up to 30 days in Thailand, requiring only a valid passport and a return ticket for a smooth immigration process. From the idyllic shores of Phuket and Krabi to the bustling streets and ancient temples of Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Thailand promises a diverse range of experiences for every type of traveler.

Meanwhile, neighboring Sri Lanka has also taken steps to enhance its tourism appeal by extending visa-free entries for visitors from India and select countries until May 31, 2024. This decision grants foreign nationals from India, Japan, China, Russia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia a visa-free 30-day stay in Sri Lanka, further promoting tourism exchanges across the region.
