Three candidates, namely Jogen Mohan, Terash Gowalla, and Pramod Boro, submitted their nomination papers for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Assam. The nominations were filed at the office of the Returning Officer located at the Assam Legislative Assembly complex in Guwahati.
Among the candidates, Jogen Mohan and Terash Gowalla were nominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party, while Pramod Boro, the president of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), is the alliance candidate. The Rajya Sabha elections in Assam are being conducted for three seats, marking the commencement of the formal election process for selecting members to the Upper House of Parliament from the state.
During the nomination filing, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was present and mentioned that the three candidates represent significant ethnic communities in Assam. He highlighted their extensive involvement in public service and dedication to the welfare of people across the state. Sonowal also emphasized that the candidates collectively represent various regions of Assam, including the Barak Valley, Brahmaputra Valley, and the hill areas.
Expressing confidence in the candidates, Sonowal stated that they would effectively address state-related issues in Parliament. He congratulated the candidates, noting that they would jointly represent the BJP and UPPL in the Rajya Sabha elections, amplifying Assam’s voice at the national level. The ruling alliance in Assam is anticipated to secure the three Rajya Sabha seats, given its strong presence in the state Assembly.
