Three teenage boys tragically drowned in a dam in Ashoknagar district on Monday afternoon while bathing for fun. The victims, identified as Mayank (16), Dev (16), and Om (15), were close friends and residents of Ajleshwar village. None of the boys knew how to swim, and they lost their lives after venturing into deeper waters.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the boys, part of a group of six friends, initially bathed in the shallow part of the dam before moving towards deeper waters. As the water depth increased suddenly, they lost balance and began drowning. Their friends attempted to help but were unable to due to the water’s depth.
The surviving boys rushed back to the village to inform the families, leading to a large-scale search operation by villagers and the police. Despite efforts, the bodies of the teenagers were recovered only after a challenging search by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) divers.
The entire Ajleshwar village is mourning the loss, with inconsolable family members and neighbors gathering to support the bereaved families. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and the police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
