Golf icon Tiger Woods was released from a Florida jail on Saturday morning following his arrest for allegedly driving under the influence and being part of a rollover crash near his Florida residence. Woods, aged 50, was found slumped in a black Cadillac and was driven out of the Martin County lockup about eight hours post his arrest. Despite spending the mandatory eight hours in custody as per Florida law, Woods was permitted to depart, although authorities asserted no preferential treatment was given.
Reports indicated that Woods, exhibiting signs of being under the influence of medication or drugs, overturned his Land Rover while attempting to pass a flatbed truck around 2 p.m. The Martin County Police stated that Woods, aged 50, showed signs of impairment post his arrest. A mugshot of Woods with bloodshot eyes was released by the police in the evening, and he was taken to the Martin County jail in Florida.
Martin County sheriff John Budensiek mentioned that Woods, driving a Land Rover, flipped the vehicle after trying to overtake a truck on a narrow road near his Jupiter Island home. The car hit a trailer, swerved off the road, and landed on its side after sliding along the pavement. DUI investigators found signs of impairment in Woods and conducted various tests, although alcohol was ruled out, with Woods declining a urinalysis.
This incident marks at least the third car crash involving Woods, with the most recent occurring in February 2021, resulting in severe leg and ankle injuries. Since the 2021 crash, Woods has participated in 11 tournaments, finishing no closer than 16 shots behind the winner in the four events where he completed all 72 holes. Social media was abuzz following Woods’ arrest, with reactions ranging from concern to memes about the legendary golfer’s situation.
