Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha met with Major General Shubhankar Basu and other senior Army officials to talk about India-Bangladesh border concerns and the upcoming Bangladesh elections. They addressed issues like porous borders, inimical activities, and the impact of the upcoming elections in Bangladesh. The General Officer Commanding (GOC) assured continued vigilance and cooperation in response to these discussions.
The Army officer expressed gratitude for the support from the state administration and emphasized the importance of civil-military cooperation. He mentioned plans to enhance intelligence sharing and conduct activities like motivational lectures and recruitment rallies. The Chief Minister pledged full support and cooperation with the Indian Army in their efforts.
The visit of the senior Army officials highlighted the strong bond between the Red Shield Division and the people of Tripura. It emphasized the division’s commitment to safeguarding national integrity and honoring India’s war heroes, especially during the 1971 Bangladesh liberation war. Major General Basu paid homage at the Albert Ekka War Memorial, honoring the sacrifice of Lance Naik Albert Ekka and other brave soldiers.
During the visit, the GOC interacted with officers and soldiers, stressing the importance of drawing inspiration from past warriors. Lance Naik Albert Ekka, who was awarded the Param Vir Chakra for bravery, was remembered for his sacrifice in securing Agartala. Tripura’s border with Bangladesh, spanning 856 km, poses challenges due to its vulnerability to smuggling and cross-border crimes.
