Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has pledged full support to the parents of a 19-year-old girl from Tripura who was reportedly brutally attacked in Gurugram. Saha, currently in New Delhi, met the victim’s parents to show solidarity with them. The girl was allegedly assaulted by her live-in partner, sparking outrage in Tripura and other northeastern states.
In a Facebook post, the Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt support, stating, “In this heartbreaking time, I met the parents of the Gurugram victim in New Delhi today.” Saha assured the parents of unwavering assistance from the Tripura government and instructed the Special Chief Resident Commissioner at Tripura Bhawan in Delhi to stand with them. The Tripura government has also committed to covering all treatment expenses for the victim.
CM Saha mentioned that Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini assured him of ensuring justice in the case involving the assault on the Tripura student in Gurugram. Following the Chief Minister’s request, Tripura Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy visited the hospital to assess the situation and provide support to the victim. Saha also reached out to the Union Health Minister’s office to ensure the girl receives the best medical care possible.
The victim, a biotechnology student in Gurugram, allegedly faced severe physical abuse from her live-in partner, Shivam. The victim’s mother revealed that the accused befriended her daughter online a few months ago and promised marriage. The accused was arrested on February 19 after the victim’s distress call to her mother, reporting confinement and continuous assault.
