Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) victory in the Silchar constituency in southern Assam during the upcoming Assembly elections. Speaking at an election rally in Silchar, Saha endorsed BJP candidate Rajdeep Roy, predicting a significant win. He criticized the Congress-led UPA government, labeling it as corrupt, while praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for advancing the country’s development.
Saha highlighted the BJP’s governance in Tripura, emphasizing the end of what he termed as 35 years of misrule by the Left Front. He credited the change to Modi’s tenure as Prime Minister since 2014, noting its positive impact on the region. Saha also mentioned the upcoming elections in the TTAADC and a by-election in the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency in North Tripura district, underscoring their importance for the state.
The Chief Minister acknowledged the support of party followers by attending the Silchar rally, drawing parallels between Silchar and Agartala due to their close connections. He mentioned the expected campaign visits of Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the region. Saha criticized past governments for corruption and instability before 2014, contrasting it with the current administration’s focus on transparency and good governance.
Emphasizing the significance of the Northeast, Saha quoted the Prime Minister’s reference to the region as “Ashtalakshmi,” highlighting its crucial role in India’s growth. He praised the Act East Policy as a catalyst for regional development. The rally saw the presence of various BJP leaders, including Silchar MP Parimal Shukla Baidya, MLAs Dipayan Chakraborty and Nihar Kanti Das, and former district president Bimalendu Roy.
