Tripura Police swiftly apprehended three women in connection with the brutal assault on a six-year-old girl in Paresh Colony, West Tripura district. The arrests were made following a case registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, 2023, and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. The accused allegedly tied the child’s hands and legs, inflicting severe physical torture on her over suspicions of stealing Rs 20 from a neighbor’s house.
The distressing incident, captured in a viral video on social media, has sparked widespread condemnation in the state. Authorities revealed that the victim, living in vulnerable circumstances due to her mother’s absence, was left in the care of her father, a daily wage laborer. The Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights (TCPCR) has lodged a formal complaint against the accused, urging stringent action.
Senior police officials confirmed the ongoing interrogation of the arrested women and assured the public of continued investigations. Emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach towards crimes against children and vulnerable groups, authorities pledged to pursue legal action against the perpetrators to safeguard the well-being of minors. The arrested individuals, identified as Dipali Banik (41), Kajali Sarkar (50), and Manti Biswas (35), were presented before a local court for further legal proceedings.
