In a tragic incident in Tripura’s Gomati district, a 52-year-old government school science teacher, Ajit Das, allegedly killed his wife, Rupa Das, 45, and their son, Diganta Das, 18, with a bamboo staff while they were asleep. Both victims died on the spot. Das then attempted suicide by consuming pesticides and is currently in critical condition at Gomati District Hospital.

Residents discovered the gruesome scene after hearing screams early in the morning, but it was too late to save the victims. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. The incident, which occurred in Beltoli under the Radha Kishore Pur police station, has left the Udaipur area in mourning.

Ajit Das, reportedly suffering from mental health issues, has left the community in shock. Meanwhile, police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. In a separate incident, a female teacher at Umakanta Government English Medium School in Agartala was allegedly assaulted, sparking concerns about safety in educational institutions.

The accused, a former teacher at the same school, has not faced any consequences yet, leading to criticism and worry among different groups. The All India Working Women’s Coordination Committee has urged the Education Department to take action to ensure the safety of teachers in schools.
