The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections are currently ongoing in all eight districts of the state. More than half of the 9,62,697 eligible voters have already cast their votes by noon to select from 173 candidates vying for positions. The TTAADC, with 30 members overseeing a significant portion of Tripura’s geographical area, holds substantial political importance, second only to the state Assembly.
Officials from the State Election Commission (SEC) reported that around 50% of voters had participated in the elections by noon, with no major incidents reported across the state. The polling stations, numbering 1,257, saw a significant turnout of tribal men and women in traditional attire even before the polls opened at 7 a.m. The voting process will continue until 4 p.m., primarily in tribal-inhabited regions.
The TTAADC elections, characterized by a month-long intense campaign and occasional clashes, are anticipated to influence the future political scenario in Tripura. Nearly a million voters, predominantly from tribal communities, including a substantial number of women, will determine the fate of 173 candidates contesting across 28 Assembly constituencies in eight districts.
