US President Donald Trump has removed Attorney General Pam Bondi from her position, making this the second Cabinet official dismissal, following Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s removal. Trump announced that Bondi’s Deputy, Todd Blanche, would serve as the Acting Attorney General. In a social media post, Trump praised Bondi as a “Great American Patriot and a loyal friend” who had effectively overseen a significant decrease in crime rates across the country.
President Trump expressed his appreciation for Bondi’s service, highlighting her role in reducing crime rates to their lowest levels since 1900. The Attorney General in the US holds substantial authority as the head of the Department of Justice, with responsibilities similar to those of a Home Minister in other governmental systems. Bondi’s decision to release files related to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, which also mentioned Trump’s name, reportedly displeased the President, although no incriminating evidence was found against him.
Bondi, who had previously served as the Attorney General of Florida, had faced pressure from Trump to swiftly prosecute individuals he believed had wronged him. The US Justice Department, under Bondi’s leadership, faced various controversies, including accusations of targeting Trump’s political adversaries. Several officials within the Department resigned due to disagreements with Bondi, who had been a part of Trump’s legal defense team during impeachment proceedings.
