The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has expressed worries about the security measures for its President, actor-turned-politician Vijay, during his election campaign in Tamil Nadu. Despite being provided ‘Y’ category security, the party claims that the security arrangements during campaign events were inadequate, raising concerns for Vijay’s and the public’s safety. The issue arose during Vijay’s nomination filing on March 30 and subsequent campaign programs in Perambur, Kolathur, and Villivakkam constituencies.
Party sources mentioned that although necessary permissions were in place and a campaign plan was structured, Vijay reportedly curtailed parts of his campaign due to insufficient police protection. He proceeded with events in Perambur and Kolathur but canceled the visit to Villivakkam last minute, citing inadequate security deployment to handle the crowd and potential threats. TVK leaders have lodged a formal complaint with the Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer seeking immediate action for enhanced protection during campaign activities.
Amid the security concerns, a controversy emerged when a letter surfaced mentioning Ajay Kumar Bhalla as the Union Home Secretary, which was incorrect as he currently serves as the Governor of Manipur. This error has led to criticism from political observers questioning the accuracy of the communication. While TVK has not officially addressed this discrepancy, the incident has added a new dimension to the debate on security arrangements for prominent candidates during the election period.
