The Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar arrested two individuals for the gangrape of a woman in the Tamando area of the city. The accused, Narayana Swain (31) and Bichitra Sahoo (34), both from Nayagarh district, work as private Ambulance drivers in Bhubaneswar.
According to police sources, the victim, originally from West Bengal, lived with her husband in Chandaka, Bhubaneswar. The main accused, Swain, was acquainted with the victim through a relative in the neighborhood. He exploited this familiarity to gain her trust.
On the night of the incident, after a dispute with her husband, the victim planned to return to West Bengal. The prime accused offered her a ride to the railway station but instead took her to his rental accommodation where the assault occurred. Subsequently, the accused threatened her to keep silent about the incident.
After escaping, the woman reported the crime to the Tamando police, leading to the arrest of the accused. They were presented before the court and remanded to judicial custody on Monday.
