Two Maoists, one being a key commander, were neutralized in a fierce clash with security forces in the dense forests of the National Park area in Bijapur district. The deceased militants were identified as Dilip Bedja, the chief of the Naxalites’ National Park Area Committee, and another cadre. Their bodies have been recovered from the encounter site.
Reports also hinted at the possible presence of senior Maoist leader Paparao, also known as Papa Rao, in the area, with unconfirmed suggestions of his neutralization. The gunfight erupted in the north-western forested and hilly terrain of Bijapur district following specific intelligence inputs about armed Maoist presence.
The operation, led by a joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawans, commenced after proactive search and cordon operations. The clash has resulted in intermittent firing continuing since early hours, with the encounter ongoing at multiple locations in the region. Security personnel have surrounded the entire area, maintaining an active operation status.
DRG jawans acted on credible information, leading to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and other potential arms and ammunition from the site. This development signifies an early success in Chhattisgarh’s intensified anti-Naxal campaign, in line with the central government’s aim to eradicate Naxalism by March 31, 2026. The Bastar region, including Bijapur, has seen sustained pressure on Maoist networks through various operations, surrenders, and eliminations.
