In a bold incident that has sparked concerns about law and order, unknown individuals shot at the home of BJP leader Sapan Das in Adityapur sub-town of Jamshedpur. The entire event, captured on nearby CCTV cameras, involved the attackers arriving on a scooter and firing at least three rounds rapidly at Das’s house window in Saldih Basti under Seraikela-Kharsawan district. Eyewitnesses mentioned that the assailants hurled abuses during the attack before quickly fleeing, leaving the locals in shock.
Although no injuries were reported, the incident has instilled fear and tension in the area. The attackers were identified by residents as known criminals named Raju alias ‘Takla’ and Chandan, who are said to be active in the vicinity. Angry residents and local BJP members criticized the police for negligence, citing the same accused individuals’ alleged involvement in a previous violent incident on April 4. They believe that the lack of strict action earlier may have emboldened the criminals to carry out the recent attack.
Responding to the situation, Inspector Vinod Tirkey, in-charge of Adityapur police station, assured that the police promptly reached the scene upon receiving the alert and initiated a preliminary investigation. He confirmed the identification of the accused and mentioned ongoing raids to apprehend them. “The issue is being treated seriously. We are analyzing CCTV footage and pursuing all leads to arrest the culprits soon,” he stated.
Following the shooting, tension prevails in Saldih Basti, with residents calling for increased police presence and stricter law enforcement. Police authorities are conducting searches at suspected hideouts based on intelligence inputs and CCTV evidence to address the situation effectively.
