Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan addressed the Western Regional Conference organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. He highlighted three main objectives. Firstly, he emphasized the importance of ensuring food security and self-dependency in food supply. Secondly, he stressed the need to increase farmers’ income and improve their quality of life. Lastly, he underscored the significance of nutrition security and the challenges posed by climate change.
Chouhan also discussed the necessity of agricultural diversification and sustainable practices like natural farming. He emphasized the role of innovation in farming, including modern agricultural practices and technologies like Artificial Intelligence. Additionally, he mentioned the importance of aligning crop selection and farming techniques with agro-climatic conditions for optimal results.
During the conference, Chouhan emphasized the significance of Farmer IDs and the progress made by states like Rajasthan and Maharashtra in this regard. He also highlighted the concept of regional conferences to address diverse agricultural needs based on agro-climatic zones. The inaugural event for the western region saw participation from states like Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
