Union Health Minister JP Nadda unveiled the Tetanus and Adult Diphtheria (Td) vaccine, manufactured locally, at the Central Research Institute in Himachal Pradesh. This move is seen as a significant stride in fortifying India’s public health system and attaining self-sufficiency in healthcare. The launch event, held at the Central Research Institute in Kasauli, was commended by Nadda, who praised the institute for its achievement in developing the vaccine within India.
Nadda emphasized the importance of this launch in enhancing national health security and bolstering the public health infrastructure of the country. He highlighted the government’s commitment, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, to achieve self-reliance in the health and pharmaceutical sectors. The Health Minister described the indigenous Td vaccine as a concrete step towards realizing the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat in healthcare.
The newly introduced Td vaccine is now part of the Universal Immunization Programme (UIP) and is set to be supplied by the Central Research Institute, with 55 lakh doses expected to be provided by April 2026. Plans are underway to ramp up production in the upcoming years to support the immunization efforts nationwide. Nadda also underlined India’s global standing as a major vaccine manufacturer and its recognition as the “pharmacy of the world.”
