Union Home Minister Amit Shah sent his best wishes to the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel on their Raising Day. He praised the NDRF for being a reliable pillar of trust during natural calamities, highlighting their crucial role in building a disaster-resilient India. Shah also honored the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the safety of others.
Every year on January 19, India celebrates NDRF Raising Day, marking the formation anniversary of the National Disaster Response Force in 2006. The NDRF, established under the Disaster Management Act, has been instrumental in conducting numerous rescue, relief, and evacuation operations across the country. Comprising 16 battalions strategically located at 68 sites nationwide, the force ensures swift and efficient response to disasters based on vulnerability assessments.
The roots of the NDRF trace back to the period between 1990 and 2004 when India faced severe natural disasters. In response, the Disaster Management Act was enacted in December 2005, leading to the formal establishment of the NDRF on January 19, 2006. The force’s motto, ‘Aapada Seva Sadaiv Sarvatra,’ underscores its unwavering commitment to providing disaster response services under all circumstances, showcasing courage, discipline, and dedication.
NDRF Raising Day serves as a tribute to the bravery and selfless service of its personnel who risk their lives to save others during emergencies. It also raises public awareness about the force’s pivotal role in disaster management and its accomplishments. With continuous growth in training, expertise, and resources, the NDRF, with 16 battalions and 1,149 personnel, is well-prepared to handle various natural and man-made disasters, including chemical, biological, and radiological emergencies.
