Union Minister for Railways, Electronics, and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, has called on the Congress-led Karnataka government to avoid a narrow-minded approach and instead focus on cooperative federalism. Emphasizing the importance of unity among stakeholders, he urged everyone to collaborate towards achieving a developed India by 2047. Vaishnaw made these remarks while inaugurating the ‘Zetwerk Electronics’ manufacturing facility in Bengaluru.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar have criticized the Centre for allegedly disregarding cooperative federalism principles and treating Karnataka unfairly. Addressing Karnataka’s Minister for Large and Medium Industries, M.B. Patil, Vaishnaw reiterated the significance of cooperative federalism in fostering overall national growth. He highlighted the need for a broad vision rather than a narrow outlook to propel India towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Vaishnaw commended the progress in the electronics component manufacturing sector, noting a significant upsurge following a shift towards focusing on electronic components. With 46 approvals already in place, Karnataka is attracting investments exceeding Rs 10,000 crore. The Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, has increased the budget for the electronics component manufacturing scheme from Rs 22,000 crore to Rs 40,000 crore, indicating a positive trajectory for the sector’s growth.
Expressing satisfaction with recent advancements, Vaishnaw highlighted the development of two-nanometer chip designs in India, a significant milestone for the country. He mentioned the influx of equipment manufacturers like Applied Materials and Lam Research and expressed the goal of attracting ASML to India. Vaishnaw also mentioned the upcoming commercial production of chips this year, signaling a promising future for the semiconductor industry in India.
