Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Tokhan Sahu, emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has positively impacted the Northeastern states through targeted development efforts. Sahu conducted a comprehensive evaluation of ongoing projects under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, including meetings with key departments like CPWD, HUDCO, and NBCC.
Sahu stressed the importance of close collaboration between the Manipur state government and the Central government for the holistic advancement of Manipur. He encouraged officials to communicate any challenges hindering the smooth execution of schemes to ensure timely completion.
During the review, Sahu underlined the need for efficient implementation of all projects within the set deadlines, with provisions for special cases if necessary. He instructed officials to provide detailed reports on schemes requiring special attention for effective implementation.
Addressing delays in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 1.0, Sahu suggested submitting proposals to expedite the process, especially with the launch of PMAY(U) 2.0. The meeting also featured presentations on various key programs of the state government supported by the Central government.
The review meeting, held in Imphal, covered the progress of significant initiatives like Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban 2.0, DAY-NULM, and PM-SVANidhi. Officials presented updates on the Imphal Smart City Mission, detailing completed and ongoing projects, while highlighting challenges such as security issues and flooding affecting project timelines.
Officials managing the Town Planning Department discussed AMRUT 2.0, focusing on ensuring water security in 27 towns across six districts. They emphasized the need for extended project timelines up to September 2026, citing the unique challenges faced by the region.
