Dr. Kumar, a Distinguished University Research Professor at UA’s College of Community Health Sciences, is internationally acclaimed for his innovative approaches to translational science. His research has significantly advanced the effectiveness of treatments for complex diseases through the development of non-competitive active targeting nanosystems. These groundbreaking systems have enhanced therapies for conditions such as cancer, lupus, acute kidney injury, and diabetes. At the helm of the Laboratory for Drug Research and Engineering for Advanced Medicine, commonly known as the Kumar Lab, he continues to push the boundaries of pharmaceutical sciences.

Dr. Kumar’s illustrious career spans several esteemed institutions, including the University of Kentucky Medical Center and Texas A&M University, before his tenure at UA. In 2024, under his leadership, UA’s board of trustees approved the establishment of the Department of Translational Science and Medicine.
