Foreign visitors can now enjoy hassle-free payments in India with the launch of the UPI One World app. This digital wallet allows international travelers to make payments at various merchant locations by scanning QR codes, eliminating the need for cash and currency exchanges.

Initially introduced during last year’s G20 summit in India, UPI One World is now available to tourists from numerous countries. This expansion enhances the travel experience by offering the convenience and security of Indian digital payment technology. Any unused balance can be transferred back to the original payment source, adhering to foreign exchange regulations.

The initiative is a collaboration between NPCI, IDFC First Bank, and Transcorp International Limited, under the guidance of the Reserve Bank of India. Visitors can obtain the UPI One World wallet through authorized PPI issuers at airports, hotels, and money exchange locations, following a full KYC process based on their passport and valid visa.

Special arrangements are in place to provide the wallet to delegates attending the World Heritage Committee meeting in New Delhi from July 21-31, 2024. The wallet can be loaded with cash or other payment methods, and unused funds can be transferred back upon departure.

With UPI One World, international travelers can make seamless payments at shops and restaurants without worrying about carrying cash. This initiative aims to enhance the convenience and security of traveling in India, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
