The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) revealed its “People’s Manifesto” for the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), focusing on the complete implementation of the Bodo Peace Accord and inclusive development in the upcoming Assam Assembly campaign. Led by party president and BTR Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro, the manifesto outlines a governance plan centered on peace, identity protection, and economic growth. It includes commitments like peace committees, land rights protection, and welfare initiatives for various communities in the region.
Framed around themes of “Mother, Land, Nation, Education, and Peace,” the manifesto positions the UPPL as a stabilizing and development-oriented regional entity. It highlights the preservation of cultural and linguistic identities of numerous ethnic groups in BTR, alongside initiatives for job creation and education among the youth. The party’s economic agenda features infrastructure pledges such as village road connectivity, skill development centers, and substantial investments to enhance employment opportunities.
The manifesto also promises financial aid for households, scholarships for students, and specific programs for women. The UPPL, which recently parted ways with the BJP-led NDA over seat-sharing disputes before the April 9 polls, is strategically asserting its independent electoral approach. Rising as a significant force in Assam politics, the UPPL gained prominence in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and secured power under Pramod Boro’s leadership.
In the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, the party made legislative gains by winning key constituencies like Kokrajhar East and Sidli, strengthening its presence in BTR. With an expanded organizational reach, the UPPL is positioning itself as a BTR-centric political entity advocating peace and development post the Bodo Accord. Although a part of the BJP-led NDA, the UPPL is contesting the elections autonomously. Pramod Boro, the UPPL chief, recently entered the Rajya Sabha with BJP’s backing.
As the assembly elections draw near, the UPPL’s manifesto blends its regional agenda with broader governance commitments, aiming to represent Bodo aspirations and establish political significance in Assam’s evolving electoral scenario.
