The United States is aiming to complete its military objectives against Iran within weeks, according to Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He emphasized the conditions for ending the conflict, including Iran’s prohibition from possessing nuclear weapons and sponsoring terrorism. Rubio highlighted the progress made in destroying Iran’s air force, navy, and missile launchers.
Rubio warned against Iran’s potential control of the Strait of Hormuz, stating that such actions would not be tolerated internationally. He stressed that the strait must remain open either through Iranian compliance with international law or through a coalition of nations’ actions. Additionally, Rubio accused Iran of targeting civilian and economic infrastructure in the region.
The Secretary of State underscored the need for Iran to take concrete steps towards abandoning nuclear ambitions and missile programs to ensure a positive future. While expressing frustration with some NATO allies for denying airspace and basing access during operations, Rubio clarified that the US’s objectives do not include regime change in Iran.
