The recent bilateral ceasefire between the US and Iran, following the 40-day West Asia conflict, has garnered appreciation from senior religious figure Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in Jammu and Kashmir. President Donald Trump, who had earlier heightened tensions, announced a two-week ceasefire on social media, which Israel has agreed to despite being informed at the last minute. Notably, Pakistan played a mediating role in the ceasefire, as mentioned by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on social media.
The ceasefire declaration, emphasizing the greatness of the Iranian people, has been positively received in Jammu and Kashmir, offering relief to the residents. The Kashmir Valley, with a significant Shia Muslim population historically linked to Iran, has seen solidarity from Sunni Muslims as well. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, expressing support for the ceasefire, highlighted the importance of peace through dialogue over conflict, praising the resilience of the Iranian people and leadership.
Amidst the ceasefire, Kashmir witnessed peaceful demonstrations on March 1 following the death of Iranian supreme leader Ayatullah Ali Khamenei in US-Israeli airstrikes on February 28.
