Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to kick off 250 electric and CNG vehicles for the Lucknow Municipal Corporation on Wednesday. This move aims to enhance waste collection in 110 wards and promote a sustainable city model. The initiative seeks to upgrade Lucknow’s waste management system to be more efficient and environmentally friendly.
CM Yogi expressed that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Uttar Pradesh is progressing as a smart urban center with a vision of ‘Zero Waste to Zero Carbon Emissions’. He emphasized the importance of ensuring a better quality of life for Lucknow residents through this initiative. The Chief Minister highlighted these vehicles as symbols of the government’s dedication to cleanliness, sustainable growth, and environmental conservation.
The electric and CNG vehicles will be flagged off by CM Yogi around 11:00 a.m. from his official residence at 5 Kalidas Marg. The Lucknow Municipal Corporation has put in place a comprehensive system to ensure the complete collection, transportation, and processing of waste from households, commercial areas, and offices across all 110 wards of the city. The operations are closely monitored for efficiency, with live feeds accessible from the Municipal Corporation’s Command and Control Room.
To facilitate citizen convenience, a grievance redressal mechanism has been established for registering complaints via dedicated phone numbers. The Municipal Corporation is transitioning to electric and CNG vehicles for waste collection, gradually phasing out diesel-powered vehicles to reduce air pollution and promote a cleaner environment. This shift aligns with sustainable development principles and aims to significantly cut down carbon emissions.
