Veer Chotrani caused a surprise by defeating Baptiste Masotti, the French world No. 19, in a thrilling five-game match at the Squash on Fire Open in Washington. Chotrani, ranked 49th in the world, overcame Masotti in a closely contested encounter, winning 11-6, 7-11, 8-11, 11-1, 11-9. He will now face Declan James of England in the quarterfinals of the PSA Bronze-level event.
Chotrani, who had already made a comeback in the first round, found himself trailing Masotti before rallying to secure victory in the fifth game. Despite facing a tense situation with multiple match points, Chotrani managed to clinch the win with a well-placed backhand drop shot.
In another intense match, Velavan Senthilkumar from India faced a tough challenge against Mexican world No. 11, Leonel Cardenas. Despite a strong performance, Senthilkumar was unable to overcome Cardenas, who displayed exceptional skills during crucial moments, eventually winning the match.
